The Chairman, members of the Board of Directors, management and staff of the Jamaica National Building Society (JNBS), JN Small Business Loans Limited, NEM Insurance Company (Ja) Limited, and the JNBS Foundation express sincerest condolences at the passing of our Director, Mr. John J. Cunningham.
Mr. Cunningham was appointed to the JNBS Board in September 1999, and throughout his tenure has made sterling contributions to the growth of the JN Group.
With considerable experience in business, informationtechnology, marketing, and finance, Mr. Cunningham
was a source of invaluable information and was always depended on to provide insightful and impactful solutions. He made vital contributions to the Society’s Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) strategies, based on his leadership of the IT Steering Committee.
His quiet persona, easy-to-approach demeanor, and humility created a safe haven for anyone who sought dialogue with him.
Mr. Cunningham’s significant contributions were also extended to the JNBS subsidiaries. He was Chairman of the JN Small Business Loans Limited; and a Director of NEM Insurance Company (Ja.) Limited and the JNBS Foundation.
He was also a Trustee of the JNBS Pension Fund.
In the wider society, Mr. Cunningham’s expertise was instrumental in enhancing the work of corporate and educational entities.
He was a former Director of the Petroleum Corporation of Jamaica (PCJ), the Development Bank of Jamaica (DBJ), and the South East Regional Health Authority; former Chairman of the Board of Bellfield High School and Chairman of the Board of Belair High School.
He was also the Managing Director of Pioneer Chocolate Company Limited in Manchester.
The JNBS family extends deepest sympathies to his widow, Christalia Volaitis; children, Nicholas and Peter John; parents John J. Cunningham, Snr. and Vena Cunningham; sister Valerie, and brother Robert.
